Rob Rock

Rob Rock has made a musical career that has been going for 35 years.
He is one of the best Metal vocalists and his impressive voice is appreciated all over the world.

His extensive discography tells us about an artist who is restless and passionate about his art.
His solo works are collectible jewelery.
Vocalist in Angélica, today considered a cult band, in Driver, which is already part of the history of heavy metal, and together with Impellitteri he has made a very successful career, managing to be in stages of America, Europe and Asia.
We are with "The Voice" of Melodic Metal

Metalbreed: Hello Rob, welcome to Metalbreed. Thank you very much for granting us the interview. It is a pleasure and a great joy to be able to talk with you.

Rob Rock: There's no need, the pleasure is mine!

M: The first thing I want to tell you is that my magazine is named after the theme Metal Breed, from your disc Garden of Chaos and thank you for it, since it reflects what many of us want to express: "Revolution that is still evolving. Standing tall the metal breed. Generations of the anvil pounding. You can not stop the Metal Breed"

Rob.R: Yes, it's my song. Written by Bob Rossi and me, from my band Rage of Creation in Florida. I'm glad you found it worthy enough to use as the title of your magazine.

Rob Rock

M: The Garden of Chaos album is now 10 years since its release, and we realize that it is a very special album. Here is Liza (your wife) again, on the keyboards and there is an ode to your son Alexander, in addition to the song Unconditional, which has a very deep lyrics. Could you tell us about these two issues?

Rob.R: Wow, it hardly seems possible, ten years already? The album is high octane melodic metal, but the two songs he mentions are the two ballads. I am glad that you are receiving some attention from you because they are very special songs for me.

The only song for my son Alex, which totally changed my view of life when he was born, was written from a piano piece that Liza had composed and we developed the song along with Roy Z. The other is a song for my wife Liza, a whom I love very much and unconditionally, and I wanted to give her a gift of a song that reflects that. The ballads came at a special moment in my life, and with the emotions involved, I was able to express that within the songs.

"I am very happy that the solo albums are up to my other works in which I have also participated."

Impellitteri Band

M: Rob, you've made a huge career as a vocalist, always giving the best in each project. But personally your solo albums for me, have an additional fee In addition to the compositions and lyrics, you surrounded yourself with tremendous artists in each album, reflect that you have given some tastes with companions of the likes of Tobias Sammet, Mistheria, C.J. Grimmark, Andreas Olsson, Roy Z, and other great musicians. They are works of art that reflect much of you. What do these discs mean to you?

Rob.R: My solo albums are my babies. They are really personal creations and the musicians that I have worked with have certainly given me the best, and I can never thank them enough for their contributions. These are friends with whom I have worked and who have generously shared their talents in my recordings. Roy Z has been a great instrument in helping me achieve the highest quality composition and production for all my solo albums, so he deserves great credit for his success. I am very happy that the solo albums are up to my other works in which I have also participated.

M: Is it possible for you to come back soon with a new solo production?

Rob.R: It's possible, I do not know how and when yet. I hope for another solo album, but I need the "aligned stars" at the right time and the situations to develop.

M: Rob, for the fans of Argentina it was a dream that you came to give an unshow here. Finally, God allowed it. Please tell us how you lived the tour of South America.

Rob.R: It was amazing to be in South America and Argentina. I always looked forward to a tour of South America and it finally happened. I hope to come back soon. The experience was very positive and the fans made it all worth the time and effort it took to go there.

M: Was there time to get to know Buenos Aires a bit? Did you try "Mate"?

Rob.R: We had just a little time and we took a walk around the city. The stores were very interesting. We found a great restaurant and tried the famous "meat", meat selections. It was wonderful! Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to try "Mate".

M: How do you feel when you see the love of the fans that follow you through the years?

Rob.R: I feel very honored ... love is incredible and much appreciated ... a dream come true!

M: In 2016 you also returned to Europe (Spain-Germany) with Impellitteri. How is the metal scene there? Can you know something about the metal movement in the tours?

Rob.R: We also played in Korea, addressing our biggest audience that year. The metal scene seems very healthy in Europe and Asia.

I think fans do not get to see us "live" very often so it's a special event when we play there.

M: All audiences are not the same, but which one has caused you the most?

Rob.R: My heart is going to Japan. Japan has always been my favorite audience because they are so sincere and very warm. I think it's because we spent a lot of time there with Impellitteri and the reception is always wonderful!

M: The disc Venom was received with great joy by all those who admire Impellitteri. How long did the recording of the songs take and how was the experience of re-recording with Cris and developing a new album with this powerful formation?

Rob.R: The recording took a few months of time. We recorded the parts together in the studio for the basic tracks and then I made voices here in Florida when the band ended up in L.A. Then we had to mix the album. I think everyone in the band trust each other and they know the talent in the band. We work well together and after all these years, it's really a team effort.

M: What is the album of Impellitteri that you enjoyed the most? Why?

Rob.R: I do not know how to choose an album. Screaming Symphony is very special to me, but so is Answer to the Master. Screaming Symphony for the vocal work (lead and backings) and Answer to the Master for the environment in general. But I always love new records.

M: Rob, some personal questions. Who were influential in your life to begin the path of God?

Rob.R: My mom and dad. My mom was a huge spiritual influence on me as I witnessed Christ in his life, my whole life. Last Christmas passed away and we miss it every day.

Rob Rock & Albums

M: Who were your great references to start with music and who do you currently admire?

Rob.R: Lou Gramm from Foreigner, Dio, and Ian Gillan. These days, I love listening to the classic rock of the 70s from bands like Kansas and Queen.

M: What things are you passionate about besides music?

Rob.R: Family and Soccer.

M: What jobs did you do when you could not live as a music professional?

Rob.R: I have and run a landscaping company here in Florida.

M: The dream of every artist is to live by his art. You've made it?

Rob.R: I could achieve it for 35 years. Continue now, but I also have to run my own company to help pay for my lifestyle.

M: Who are your best friends?

Rob.R: Some of you will not know them by name, but two names that you will know are Roy Z and Chris Impellitteri.

M: What do you think of what Chris Cornell did? Did you know him personally?

Rob. R: I did not know him personally, but I was a big fan of his voice and music. I think I can not know what I was thinking or feeling at that moment, but it is tragic. My heart is with your family.

M: Going back to the musical, "Angelica" is already considered a cult band.

Do you have contact with Dennis Cameron? Have you considered the possibility of meeting with him to record something?

Rob.R: Occasionally I talk to Dennis via email. We are friends and we try to keep in touch.

We have not really talked much about the recording. I suppose I would consider it if possible.

M: Regarding Driver, it is already part of the history of Heavy Metal. Please tell us a little about the album "Countdown of 2012. What did it mean for you to meet Roy Z and Reynold "Butch" Carlsson and re-sing songs from the first era?

Rob.R: It's great to have an outlet for great songs that have stood the test of time. It's even better when they see the light of day on an album released around the world. I love those guys and the songs we write together.

M: Who owns the lyrics of Running From The Darkness and why was it dedicated to celebrities like Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston?

Rob.R: It's mine. It's a song about addiction and depression, and these famous people seem to have a lifelong battle with both, and brings the problems and misunderstandings of these diseases to the forefront. They have also ended up in tragic situations, which makes me sad that I did not conquer rum to their demons.

M: 2017 is going a little quieter in terms of tours. Did you think so?

Rob.R: Last year was crazy for me. So many concerts, so many different countries, and different and different bands alignments playing. The 2017 is calm and thoughtful for me, and I'm fine with that.

M: What do you have prepared for 2018? Will there be productions, tours?

Rob.R: I'm looking forward to working on a new Impellitteri album, and I hope that I'll also do some new solo composition by Rob Rock. I hope that a Japan / Europe / Latin America tour will also be developed for a new version of Impellitteri.

M: Rob, thank you very much for this interview! I admire you and you have been a great blessing for my life, for my radio program and now you are also for my magazine! Receive the love of fans from Argentina and South America. God bless you in everything you undertake. Please a few words for Metalbreed readers.

Rob.R: I want to thank all the fans and friends who listen to my music for their support and love. I really appreciate you and I'm glad we can connect together through my music. Thank you for sharing my music and history with your readers and listeners too! I hope to see you all very soon. As you know, we passed Hurricane Irma here in Florida. Much devastation was made throughout the state. Personally, we saved any great loss or discomfort. The stress of the coming storm and the drama on television and radio were immense. But my family had a good time, thank God! I am very blessed to have the support of many friends and fans around the world and I thank each of you for your prayers and concern. God bless you all!

VENOM REVIEW

Impellitteri Venom

(Frontiers Records, 2015)

1- Venom
2- Empire Of Lies
3- We Own The Night
4- Nightmare
5- Face The Enemy
6- Domino Theory
7- Jehovah
8- Rise
9- Time Machine
10- Holding On

Bonus tracks:
11- Rock Through The Night
12- Reach For The Sky

Long was the wait since Impellitteri's last record work, "Wicked Maiden", (2009). After six years he returns with a new album: "Venom" (2015), where he exposes all his virtues along with a big voice like Rob Rock, with a drum machine like Jon Dette, without forgetting who it also gives him solidity with the bass to each subject, James Pulli.

It begins with the song that gives the title to the album: "Venom", which rolls with its speedy succession of scales on a powerful rhythmic base with the aggressive voice of Rob but always with the melody very marked.

It continues with the theme "Empire of lies" with the most marked distortion but also with much melody in its doubled refrain, leading to an incredible guitar solo, and then moving on to the theme "We own the night" with a catchy and catchy chorus.

The sound becomes disturbing and theatrical in "Nightmare" with a setting and some changes of tone before with some very lame riffs reminding me the intro to the song "Beware of the devil" from the album "Crunch". Something less attractive has been "Face the enemy" heavier voice with more sour but expressive and clean, recovering stuck and speed with the incisive "Domino theory" marked by its clear refrain.

With "Jehovah", in addition to showing their beliefs and their faith, recover the thickest vein again with the occasional baroque arpeggio, which disappear in a curious and current "Rise" knocking with their des choirs before heavy riffs, reappearing in the worked "Time Machine" of almost frantic riding rhythm, cut by resounding blows of voice until arriving at a perfectly recognizable chorus.

It closes the record with "Holding on" another good theme brand of the House of sharp rhythms with virtuoso guitar drawings above accompanying the somewhat flatter voice of Rob on the powerful punch of Dette to the drums. Good final for an album that I think will please the usual followers of Impellitteri.
