이탈리아 출신의 기타리스트이자 작곡가이자 프로듀서인 Frank Caruso(프랭크 카루소)는 그의 두번째 솔로 앨범 [Kaleidoscope II]를 2017년 3월 30일에 유럽의 Lion Music에서 발매하였습니다. 앨범의 두번째 트랙인 "Higher Ground"에서 Rob Rock이 Special Guest로 참여하였으며, 뮤직 비디오에서도 함께 하였습니다.

Frank Caruso라는 인물에 대해 먼저 소개하겠습니다.

Frank Caruso는 1968년(2017년 현재, 만 49세) 이탈리아 밀라노에서 태어났으며, 8살에 기타와 피아노 연주를 시작하였습니다. 12살에는 Macid라는 멜로딕 록 밴드의 45 rpm 첫번째 레코드를 발매하였습니다. 17살에는 학교 친구들과 함께 밴드 Firehouse(우리가 익히 잘알고 있는 미국 그룹 FIREHOUSE가 아닙니다)를 결성하여 두장의 앨범을 발매하였는데, 그중 [LABYRINTH]라는 제목의 앨범은 유럽 전역에 발매되었습니다. 호평을 받은 기타리스트로서 그는 80년대와 90년대 초반에 여러 이탈리아 아티스트들과 공동 작업을 하였으며, 다양한 녹음 스튜디오에서 세션을 시작했습니다.

다른 아티스트와 세션맨 활동 이후 Firehouse의 일부 멤버와 함께 1996년 자신만의 프로젝트 밴드 Arachnes를 결성하면서 본격적으로 그만의 음악세계를 펼쳐보이며 두각을 나타냅니다. Power/Progressive/Symphonic Metal 스타일의 Arachnes 밴드는 2011년 까지 활동하면서 여러장의 앨범을 발매하였으며, Stratovarius와 Angra와 같은 밴드와 함께 컴필레이션 앨범에 함께하기도 하였고, 국제적인 명성을 얻었습니다.

2004년에는 Undergound Symphony 레이블에서 Guitar Instrumental Rock 스타일의 첫번째 Solo Album - [Kaleidoscope]를 발표하였으며, 2008년에는 총 3명의 기타리스트가 함께하는 "Strings 24"라는 기타 프로젝트 결성하여 2장의 Guitar Instrumental Rock 앨범을 발매하였습니다. 이후 Frank Caruso는 Thunder Rising 밴드를 결성하여 2013년과 2015년에 두장의 앨범을 발매하였는데 두 앨범 모두 Yngwie Malmsteen 밴드 출신의 보컬리스트 Mark Boals가 함께하고 있습니다. 넓은 음악적 인맥을 바탕으로 이전에 포스팅한바 있는 Mistheria의 초대형 프로젝트, Vivaldi Metal Project (2016/08/01 - [6. Rob Rock과의 만남, 그리고 Kaleidoscope II

Vivaldi Metal Project 덕분에 Frank Caruso는 Impellitteri의 보컬리스트 Rob Rock과의 인연을 만들 수 있었습니다. Frank는 Rob에게 몇 곡을 들려주었으며 그 결과로써 롭은 'Higher Ground'의 가사와 멜로디를 썼습니다. 2016년 4월 27일, Frank Caruso는 그의 페이스북을 통해 두번째 솔로 앨범에서 한개의 트랙과 뮤직 비디오에 The Voice of Melodic Metal, Rob Rock이 참여하게 되었다고 알려주었고, 롭은 지난해 6월초 'Higher Ground'를 레코딩 하기위해 스튜디오로 향했습니다. 2004년 이후 13년 만에 두번째 솔로 앨범 [Kaleidoscope II]를 발매하면서 Frank Caruso는 'Classic Melodic Rock 스토리의 조각을 만든' Rob Rock의 능력과 인간성에 감사한다고 특별히 전했습니다.

앨범에는 Rob Rock 뿐만아니라 키보디스트 Mistheria, Strings 24 시절부터 인연을 맺어온 Hardline 키보디스트 Andy Martongelli, ArthemisㆍFear of FoursㆍBad Faith 출신의 기타리스트 Andy Martongelli, LabyrinthㆍVision DivineㆍShadows of Steel 출신의 키보디스트 Andrea De Paoli, 다수의 유명 기타리스트 등과 함께한 베이시스트 Dino Fiorenza가 스페셜 게스트로 참여하였으며, 그의 밴드 Thunder Rising도 2곡에서 함께 하였습니다.

Rob Rock이 참여한 곡 'Higher Ground'를 제외한 모든 곡이 기타 연주곡이며, Frank Caruso는 Ibanez 기타와 Laney 앰프를 사용하였습니다.
